Air conditioning provides comfortable clean, filtered air into occupied offices and workplaces. Systems are additionally used to cool or heat an area at a temperature you require, to provide a comfortable environment whether it is hot or cold outside.
Research has shown a considerable benefit of having an air-conditioned system is that efficiency is increased within working environment. A study highlighting that for every 1ºC above the optimum level (which is around 23ºC in the summer) there is a 5% fall in people’s work efficiency. Therefore showing how air-conditioning can benefit the employer and the employee.
There are many different types of air-conditioning systems and these can be split into three main categories:
Centralised ducted air-conditioning systems
These are systems in which movement of air around the building is heated or cooled. This is achieved by centralised equipment located on a roof or in a dedicated plant room. Read more...
Centralised fluid based systems
These are systems in which a fluid - typically water or refrigerant - is used to heat and cool the building. In a similar way as the air based system and again using centralised equipment. Both these methods are to commercial applications. Read more...
Decentralised systems
These are systems in which heating and cooling is conducted locally. These systems are relatively common in smaller offices. Split systems or portable units are used to serve a given area. Read more...
Air-conditioning systems can be used during hot summer or cold winter months, offering the end users flexible heating and cooling solutions.
